Re: Wayne Rooney
fwiw i'd have rooney behind shearer, lineker, owen as goalscorers (charlton was a bit before my time) but rooney is the better all round player imo out of the 4.

Re: Wayne Rooney
Greaves for me.

Look at the goals to games ratio. Much better indicator than a record which really is down to longevity as well as goalscoring ability. 44 in 57 is outstanding.

Re: Wayne Rooney
Fwiw, I'd have SHEARER above WAZZA by a country mile, and Owen for that matter.

Outstanding footballer who would have broken the record but for two career threatening injuries; which incidentally meant he had to completely change his game and he was still effective.

Do think people forget how good LINEKER actually was as well. The game where he scored 4 (FOUR) he scored against Spain, in Spain, was immense.

Re: Wayne Rooney
I'd rate Charlton top by a stretch - scored many crackers and all from midfield, and generally against better opposition than more modern footballers face.

Then Greavesy - definitely the sharpest in the box, Lineker and Owen/Rooney tied.

Why compare everyone to Messi and Ronaldo, they are freaks, likely never to be seen for another generation.

He is an exceptional footballer but not on the same level as the very best.

It has to be said, that many international goals at that age is outstanding.

International football is garbage, playing agaisht mainly pony teams.

Neymar has 46 goals for Brazil, he is 23.

He is overrated as well according to some.

stewie griffin 3:10 Wed Sep 9
Re: Wayne Rooney
He's been playing for England for 12 years.

I don't think 50 goals in 12 years is especially challenging to beat.
Carlton just about managed it for us.

Honest Hammer 3:04 Wed Sep 9
Re: Wayne Rooney
I don't regard him as a goalscorer but his England record seems to suggest that he is.

Of the 5 I only saw Michael Owen play, who - at his peak excited me miles more than Rooney ever has.

Regardless of the opposition, his goalscoring record is superb and he should be commended for that.

Re: Wayne Rooney
I think Rooney was toilet a few years ago, fucking shocking in South Africa.

He's been playing well for England recently though.

I'll say it now if Peter CROUCH had been kept in the England set up he would have broken Sir Bob's record as well... he would have had a field day against San marino/Lichenstien etc

stewie griffin 2:55 Wed Sep 9
Re: Wayne Rooney
In 100 years, there'll be at least 5 people with more goals than him for England.

You can quote me on that in 100 years time.

Re: Wayne Rooney
E12... only idiots will see there... the ones with any brains will look at the major tournaments he was in and question if he was supposedly that BRILLIANT why he did absolute and utter fuck all in them

In a hundred years, when we're gone and forgotten, unless someone else comes along to better him, history will record him as having the most goals and most caps.

They wont be anyone alive to tell anyone else what a complete prick he was off the field. He'll just be a statistic.

El Hadj Diouf, Robbie Savage...

penners28 2:46 Wed Sep 9
Re: Wayne Rooney
he'll go down as having the most goals and caps.

i seriously doubt if he'll be seen as our greatest ever player though

E12Hammer 2:44 Wed Sep 9
Re: Wayne Rooney
Like him or loathe him, Wayne Rooney will go down, at least statistically, as the greatest English Player of all time.

Having already broken the goal scoring record, he'll undoubtedly also break Peter Shiltons caps record.
